Objective
A meditation and mindfulness app that guides the user through a series of exercises that focus on deep breathing to give you insights and tips on how to improve the breathing rate - reminding you to take time to breathe every day.
Understanding the Landscape
Secondary research allowed us to delve deep into the existing market, understand user behaviors, and identify unmet needs.
1
Balance between guidance and flexibility
Too much structure can be overwhelming, while too little can lead to a lack of motivation.
2
Cognitive Overload
Users often feel overwhelmed by too many choices. This leads to decision fatigue, contradicting the purpose of meditation.
3
De-clutter
A common theme was the need for an app that simplifies the meditation process and reduces digital clutter, resonating deeply with our app's core philosophy.
4
Growing emphasis on mental health and self care
This led us to prioritize features that promote regular practice and mental well-being, such as personalized reminders and unobtrusive design.
Nearly 70% of users expressed feeling overwhelmed by too many options in meditation apps. It's like walking into a giant supermarket and not knowing what to buy!
Facing the Digital Dilemma 😥
Ever noticed how your phone never stops buzzing with notifications? It's like a never-ending digital concert, and staying focused amidst all that noise feels almost impossible, right?
That's where this app steps in. It’s designed to help you shift your focus back to yourself.
Imagine a space where you're tuning into the rhythm of your breath - inhale, exhale, and repeat.
So, how do we make meditation as easy as picking up your phone?
We were all about making it a seamless part of your day. Whether you're a morning meditator or a before-bed relaxer, we wanted this app to fit right into the user's routine.
It's all about making meditation as convenient as grabbing your morning coffee.
Design DNA
Meditation practices tend to be simple. So, it's ironic many apps about these practices are anything but that. Hence, we wanted to go with a refreshing approach and design an app that has beautiful minimalism at the core. We wanted to build a tool that you could open and get started in one tap, every time. Simplicity comes first and foremost.
To limit the excessive number of choices that ultimately cause anxiety.
To set the right environment for the user making the app functional in any situation.
Behavioural nudges to meditate whenever the user wants to
To follow an effortless, minimalistic design by reducing visual clutter
🎨 Visual Design: A Spectrum of Serenity
When we started designing the app, we wanted the colors to speak to your soul. And what better inspiration than the seven chakras, right? Each chakra is associated with specific colors, and we've harnessed this color theory to create a visual language that's not just pleasing to the eyes but also soothing for the mind.
If I have to take one thing away from this experience…
People associate meditation with the feeling of releasing or setting themselves free, being in a place of serenity, and experiencing tranquility. It was a challenge to design a simple and effective interface, the app narrows down all the user’s basic needs for meditation, making it extremely easy to navigate within – without having them to really sit and think about using the app.
It was interesting to learn that focusing on certain colors can promote healing in specific parts of the body. Color visualization can be a powerful tool in meditation due to the link between the seven colors of the light spectrum and the seven chakras.
